Jerilynne Fierstein has dedicated over forty years to urban education, serving the Yonkers Public Schools – New York’s fourth largest school district – in the roles of Executive Director/Communications Officer, Administrator for Arts Education and Academically Talented Programs, and teacher. Immersed in the tapestry of cultures woven by district students within theme schools, she developed a calling to advocate for equity and access to vital arts education, books and myriad instructional materials lost to budgetary constraints. She is driven to provide these essential opportunities to urban students.
Jerilynne is a proponent of interdisciplinary instruction to develop literacy acquisition. She believes that utilizing visual and performing arts competencies in the delivery of the Common Core Learning Standards enlightens instruction for all students, especially limited English proficient and special needs students.
